FREE HOME VIDEO VOD service

We now all know Netflix and alike unlimited VOD services.

In 2006, there wasn’t such thing, and Free was the first internet provider to propose one.

They contracted Patrick Holzman, now BlackPill CEO, to invent the future of VOD.

It proved a viable model and even a huge success.

I designed the VOD service interface. It had a strong technical determinism: you should be able to use it on a very limited hardware ( a set-top box ) and heterogeneous TV screens size, some on 480 pixel wide.

So the technical challenge was to create a color palette that could present well even on CRTs TV, achieve readability and also usability with arrow navigation of the TV remote controller.
